ALLIGATORZONE PROGRAM TO FEATURE SILICON VALLEY STARTUPS FUNWITHCIRCUITS AND GRABIT, INC. AT SANTA CLARA NORTHSIDE LIBRARY Jyotsna Jha, co-founder of FunwithCircuits and Harsha Prahlad, Ph.D., CEO & co-founder of Grabit, Inc., will do a show-and-tell of their startups’ products for kids, teens and families at The City of Santa Clara’s Northside Branch Library on May 18, 2015, at 6:30 p.m.
(Tampa, FL, April 22, 2015) – Innovation and design firm SiliconGlades announced another session of its social-impact program AlligatorZone in Silicon Valley - this time in the city of Santa Clara - in cooperation with Santa Clara Northside Branch Library, and partially funded by a STEM grant award from Yahoo! AlligatorZone is a free public program, where kids meet startup founders. AlligatorZone gives local entrepreneurs an opportunity to present their startup in a show-and-tell format to an audience of school-age kids, teens and their accompanying families, usually at a local library, answering questions and listening to feedback. AlligatorZone is proving to be not only an unparalleled enriched STEM learning experience for young audiences, but also an uplifting and joyful community celebration of local innovation. "Innovation often involves taking something everyone has known, seen, or touched, and looking at it in a completely different way,” said Harsha Prahlad, Ph.D., CEO and co-founder of Grabit Inc. “At Grabit, we take the static cling effect which you experience every day, such as in your hair or clothes in the dryer, and innovate by turning it into general purpose ‘hands’ for robots." “Fun with Circuits not only helps children learn how to make and debug circuits but also helps them with their reading and problem solving skills. In the long run, we see children as makers- creative, confident and ready to accept challenges,” said Jyotsna Jha, co-founder of FunwithCircuits. “A fringe benefit to the startup founders pitching at AlligatorZone is learning how to bring about clarity in their message,” said Ramesh Sambasivan, founder of AlligatorZone, whose firm SiliconGlades provides support for the program. “Kids at AlligatorZone learn through direct interactions with the products and the founders of startups about using STEM applications in the real world to solve problems and make life better, while the grown-ups are left inspired by the founders’ personal stories,” AlligatorZone will be held on Monday, May 18, 2015, at 6:30 p.m. in the Northside Branch Library located at: 695 Moreland Way, Santa Clara, CA 95054. Parents must register at http://bit.ly/1F2Avkt to reserve seats for their children.
